At 4.30 am ET Friday, the U.K. CIPS/Markit services PMI for July is due. The index is seen improving to 51.6 in July from 51.3 a month ago.

Ahead of the data, the pound showed mixed trading against its major counterparts. While the pound rose against the dollar and the yen, it fell against the franc and the euro.

At 4:25 am ET, the pound was worth 1.5543 against the greenback, 0.7865 against the euro, 121.61 against the yen and 1.5280 against the franc.
