AudioCodes (NASDAQ: AUDC), a leading provider of converged voice
solutions that enable enterprises and service providers to
transition to all-IP voice networks, today announced that
AudioCodes' Mediant multi-service business routers (MSBR) have been
selected by Portugal Telecom for a large-scale, multi-year SIP
trunk project. The project is part of Portugal Telecom's recent
steps to implement its vision of transitioning to an all-IP
infrastructure, an increasingly popular trend in the industry.
Portugal Telecom, the incumbent carrier in Portugal, is a member of the Altice Group, a
multi-national cable, fiber and telecommunications company that
owns service providers around the world. Portugal Telecom provides
data and voice infrastructure offering Quad Play (TV, broadband,
voice (telephony) and mobile) for both consumers and businesses.
Similar to other major carriers around the world, Portugal Telecom
recently took steps to implement its vision of providing an all-IP
offering.
The AudioCodes Mediant MSBR family includes a range of scalable
devices that offer VoIP connectivity, data routing and security
together with a range of WAN interface options, all housed in a
single, compact platform. The MSBR integrated session border
controller (SBC) functionality delivers extensive SIP
interoperability enabling voice quality monitoring for better SLA
enforcement utilizing AudioCodes VoIPerfect technology. Virtually
any customer IP-PBX (including Microsoft Skype for Business)
can connect seamlessly with Portugal Telecom's infrastructure. The
devices support a range of WAN interfaces including Gigabit
Ethernet, ADSL and VDSL2 (including vectoring), as well as BRI and
PRI ISDN interfaces for customers with legacy PBX equipment. Voice
encryption is supported across all of AudioCodes' voice
connectivity platforms, including MSBR, to ensure secure
communications for Portugal Telecom's business customers.
AudioCodes' MSBRs will be fully integrated into Portugal
Telecom's management platforms to enable rapid installation and
full remote management and monitoring.
"Working with a vendor with more than 20 years of experience in
voice connectivity and interoperability adds significant value to
Portugal Telecom in its efforts to implement the Company's all-IP
vision," commented Alexandre
Fonseca, Portugal Telecom's Chief Technology Officer. "By
bringing the AudioCodes vision of helping customers migrate from
legacy to SIP trunking services, along with their extensive SIP
interoperability and support for ISDN and WAN interfaces and
flexible manageability embodied in their MSBR, AudioCodes is an
ideal partner to collaborate with on this project."
"This deployment is an important milestone for AudioCodes, as
the Portugal Telecom project represents yet further proof of the
industry trend towards an all-IP infrastructure and a validation of
the role AudioCodes has to play in that trend," said Shaul Weissman, VP Business Development, Service
Providers, at AudioCodes. "We are pleased that following a similar
project with Deutsche Telekom, our MSBR is being deployed in
another major all-IP transition project due to its recognized
flexibility, interoperability and high quality voice and data
services capability."
