NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Plug Power's Chief Executive Roger Saillant,
speaking during the company's third-quarter conference call Wednesday, said the
fuel cell company is in talks with a "key" wireless carrier for possible sales
of its backup power products.
The executive noted a Federal Communications Commission rule requiring
mobile phone carriers to have at least 24 hours of power backup in the event of
a power outage.
The rule adds to the likelihood that fuel cells will become necessary for
wireless carriers to meet these requirements, Saillant said.
