PLACING OF UMBRO PLC SHARES


Umbro plc (the "Company") announces that JPMorgan Cazenove today placed
26,750,000 shares with institutions on behalf of funds managed by Doughty Hanson

& Co Limited ("Doughty Hanson") at a price of 140p per share. As a result of
this placing, Mr Nigel Doughty, Chairman of Umbro, became entitled to a further
1,013,050 shares and will retain a total of 1,278,375 shares for his beneficial
interest. As a result of this transaction the Doughty Hanson entities, with the
exception of Mr Nigel Doughty, will no longer have an interest in the shares of
Umbro plc.
