Perceptron AutoSpect(TM) System Expands Measurement Capability
New Developments Allow for Quality Measurement after E-Coat and Primer
PLYMOUTH, Mich., June 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCP) today announced that it is shipping a new release of its
AutoSpect(TM) in-line paint quality measurement system which now offers the
unique ability to perform crucial, qualitative measurements immediately after
the applications of e-coat and primer.
"This breakthrough capability will allow our customers to institute a
distributed measurement philosophy in the paintshop, a valuable strategy
previously limited to the assembly process," said Bill Corriveau, Perceptron
senior vice president, global automotive business unit. "By distributing
measurement stations at key locations throughout the complex paint application
process, automakers are now given the ability to establish critical containment
points while simultaneously verifying product quality and process stability." The AutoSpect(TM) system has traditionally been used only in top-coat
applications, where it measured and reported a wide variety of critical paint
quality metrics such as gloss and orange peel. The process intelligence
derived from these measurements has allowed automakers to more incisively
manage the elaborate paint application process. Automakers are now able to
extend this process intelligence to the e-coat and primer applications,
measurements that had previously been impossible to perform.
Added Corriveau, "Fit and finish will always be an area of utmost importance in
the automotive industry. We view this development as an excellent opportunity
to help our customers maximize efficiency and optimize quality in the paint
shop." About Perceptron Perceptron produces information-based process improvement solutions for
