LINGLESTOWN, Pa., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll participated tonight in a traditional Polish Wigilia celebration; an event featuring meatless entrees and desserts, a visit from St. Nicholas and caroling in English and Polish. "Pennsylvania is blessed to have people living here who take such pride in their heritage," Lieutenant Governor Knoll said. "Our lives are brighter, especially during the holidays, when the rich histories of our citizens come to life during their traditional celebrations." Lieutenant Governor Knoll praised the Polish-American Association of Harrisburg for its efforts to promote cultural heritage in the mid-state region. "Your devotion to your heritage is a gift to all of us each day," Lt. Gov. Knoll said at the organization's party at the Linglestown Fire Hall, near Harrisburg. "By promoting the culture of Poland in Central Pennsylvania, you have taught us about beautiful music, lively dancing, and, of course, delicious foods. Our lives are brighter because of you." The Lieutenant Governor told those assembled that, earlier this month, 120 people were sworn in as American citizens in a ceremony in Philadelphia. "America is still the destination-of-choice for many in the world, and so is Pennsylvania. That's true because we have built something valuable here under the twin umbrellas of freedom and opportunity. I promise you that Governor Rendell and I will continue to champion the initiatives that will best take our commonwealth through 2006 and beyond."
