SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - PartnerRe Ltd. late Monday said it swung
to a second-quarter net loss of $26 million, or 64 cents a share, from a
year-ago net profit of $105 million, or $1.66 a share.
Operating earnings for the second quarter of 2008 were $183.8 million, or
$3.39 a share, up from $136.0 million, or $2.34 a share, for the second quarter
of 2007. Operating earnings exclude net realized and unrealized investment gains
and losses.
The mean estimate of analysts polled buy Thomson Reuters was for a per-share
profit of $2.59.
Net premiums written in the period ended June 30 rose 6% to $956.3 million
from $898.7 million.
Shares of the Bermuda-based insurer and reinsurer closed at $65.37.
