Employees from across PECO will celebrate National Volunteer Week (April 6-12) by participating in more than 40 employee-led service projects throughout the Greater Philadelphia area, including cleaning up parks and other public spaces, serving meals to people struggling with poverty and mentoring at-risk students.

Examples of PECO’s National Volunteer Week projects include:

  • April 8 (Philadelphia) – Renovate a home for a family in need with ACHIEVEability
  • April 9 (Erdenheim, Pa.) – Plant trees and beautify Cisco Park in Springfield Township
  • April 10 (Philadelphia) – Prepare an evening meal and assist in library clean-up at Attic Youth Center
  • April 11 (Philadelphia) – Sort food and package meals for the hungry at Philabundance
  • April 11 (Doylestown, Pa.) – Build benches and plant trees in Doylestown’s Central Park

National Volunteer Week is an annual, nationwide celebration of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. For the eighth consecutive year, PECO employees are organizing community service projects for more than 700 employees, family members and friends to participate in throughout April.

PECO and its parent company Exelon recognize National Volunteer Week by empowering employee volunteers to design their service projects and recruit others to participate. For the 8th consecutive year, more than 1,000 employees across Exelon will participate in more than 150 community service projects in April. Projects will focus on education, environmental stewardship, diversity and inclusion, and community enrichment, and involve employee volunteers from across the company.

In addition to PECO, National Volunteer Week will include employee-led service projects from across the Exelon family of companies including: ComEd in Illinois, Constellation and BGE in Maryland, and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas.

Through PECO’s Energy for the Community corporate citizenship program, PECO employees gave almost 12,000 hours to community nonprofit organizations in 2013.
