LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Oxford BioMedica Plc. said the Independent
Oncology Clinical Trials Office (OCTO) remains committed to the QUASAR V Phase
III trial for TroVax in colorectal cancer although the trial, along with the
rest of the Trovax programme, is under review by Oxford and its partner
Sanofi-Aventis after recent clinical setbacks.
OCTO, which is part of Oxford University, said the Data Safety Monitoring
Board's recent recommendation to effectively halt Trovax's testing in kidney
cancer had no impact on trials for colorectal cancer and that work in the
disease area should continue. The trial will last about three years and is
funded from a from a variety of sources, including the UK Medical Research
Council and the Department of Health.
Oxford Biomedica and Sanofi-Aventis are still to determine the future of the
Trovax programme after clinical trial disappointments.
