LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Molecular diagnostics specialist Osmetech says
a biomarker that it has an exclusive license for has been shown to enhance the
accuracy of crucial testing during thrombosis and embolism treatment
significantly, positioning it as a leader in this field.
A study published in the peer-reviewed journal Blood Online shows that the
warfarin biomarker 4F2, which has been licensed exclusively to Osmetech, will
help reduce adverse reactions to the commonly-prescribed anticoagulant warfarin,
used to treat and prevent thrombosis.
Chief executive James White said: "This marker in conjunction with variants
from the two genes (CYP2C9 and VKORC1) recommended by the FDA will improve
patient outcomes by reducing the overall complications of warfarin therapy,
reduce costs in the health system and help provide a new standard of
personalized care."
"The fact that Osmetech has an exclusive license to this marker for warfarin
testing, we believe will help position us as the leading diagnostic company in
this area," he added.
Osmetech exclusively licensed the warfarin biomarker 4F2 from the US private
hospital group Marshfield Clinic in November 2007, and the research article in
Blood Online was published by the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation.
