NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of commercial banks jumped in Monday morning trading
with the broader market as investors' hopes were buoyed by news that JPMorgan
Chase would sweeten its takeover offer for investment bank Bear Stearns.
Shares of National City Corp. rose 75 cents, or 6.8 percent, to $11.75.
Wachovia Corp. shares gained $1.34, or 4.4 percent, to $32.06.
Shares of First Horizon National Corp. added 87 cents, or 5.1 percent, to
$18.04.
And shares of Zions Bancorp rose $2.12, or 4.2 percent, to 52.64.
