LONDON--U.K. communications regulator Ofcom said Friday it plans to impose new controls on the amount mobile telecommunications companies can charge when their customers receive calls from people using different networks.

Ofcom said the new controls will mean termination rates--the fee a network operator charges when a customer receives a call from someone using a different network--will fall to 0.477 pence (0.727 cent) in 2017 from the current rate of 0.817 pence.

Ofcom said mobile termination rates have already fallen significantly in recent years due to its intervention.
