Worldphone(TM) Latest to
Adopt Corning®
Gorilla® Glass 4 for
New Smartphones
New affordable, high-style device designed to better withstand
drops
CORNING, N.Y., August 27, 2015 - Corning
Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced that Obi Worldphone(TM),
designing in collaboration with Ammunition(TM), has selected
Corning®
Gorilla® Glass 4 for
its newest flagship smartphone, the Obi Worldphone(TM) SF1.
The Obi Worldphone(TM) SF1 is the company's
premier 4G/LTE smartphone, featuring a unique and eye-catching
raised 5-inch display made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is up
to two times tougher than any competitive cover glass.
"We are delighted to collaborate with Obi
Worldphone and provide Corning Gorilla Glass 4 as the cover glass
of choice for its new smartphone," said Amit Bansal, president,
Corning India. "Consumers are demanding more from their mobile
phones. They want devices that are thinner, lighter, and
aesthetically pleasing - but also durable enough to better
withstand the abuses of everyday life. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is
the ideal solution for meeting these needs."
Gorilla Glass 4 was formulated to address
consumers' No. 1 concern: drop and break. Corning Gorilla Glass 4
performs up to two times better than competitive glass. Gorilla
Glass 4 is just as thin and light as previous versions but has been
formulated to deliver dramatically improved drop performance
without compromising on its superior light transmission, thinness,
or light weight.
"It takes a community to create a unique
technology product and customer experience, and Obi has developed a
strong, global ecosystem of more than 20 companies including
Corning," said Neeraj Chauhan, Obi's co-founder and chief executive
officer. "Gorilla Glass is the ideal cover material for the
aesthetics and functionality of our devices."
Corning Gorilla Glass is the world leader in
damage-resistant cover glass. Gorilla Glass is manufactured using
Corning's proprietary fusion draw process and is the cover glass of
choice for device manufacturers around the globe. Since its launch
in 2007, Corning Gorilla Glass has been featured in nearly 4
billion devices worldwide on more than 1,550 product models across
40 major brands. For further information about Corning Gorilla
