BOSTON (Thomson Financial) - Nektar Therapeutics Monday announced new
positive data from a Phase I clinical study of NKTR-102 in advanced cancer
patients whose tumors had progressed on other therapies.
The San Carlos, Calif.-based biopharmaceutical company said "significant"
anti-tumor activity was observed in all dose schedules of the study with partial
responses observed in 16% of patients studied in the trial.
As a result, Nektar expanded its Phase II development plan for NKTR-102
(PEG-irinotecan), which will now be evaluated in platinum-refractory ovarian
cancer and advanced breast cancer. The studies are expected to commence in the
second half of 2008.
The stock closed Friday at $4.46.
