According to Seattle.gov, Neighbor Appreciation Day "began more
than 20 years ago as a way to reach out, create new friends, and
express thanks to our neighbors who make Seattle such a great place to live." It was
based on Phinney Ridge activist
Judith Wood's suggestion that the
City designate "a special day to celebrate the goodness in those
around us and to reach out and strengthen our bonds to each
other."
Anyone wishing to participate in Saturday's cleanup should meet
at Counterbalance Park on the corner of Roy St. and Queen Anne Ave.
N. at 9 a.m. to pick up tools and get
their assignments. The cleanup will continue until noon.
