Neal E. Murphy Joins Northern Tier Energy LLC as Chief Financial Officer

Northern Tier Energy LLC announced today that Neal E. Murphy
will join the company as its Chief Financial Officer, effective
immediately.
Northern Tier Energy LLC was formed last month, when ACON
Investments and TPG Capital announced their agreement with Marathon
Oil Corporation’s wholly owned subsidiary, Marathon Petroleum
Company LP, to acquire the majority of Marathon’s Minnesota
downstream assets. TPG Capital and ACON Investments formed Northern
Tier Energy LLC to operate the assets. The transaction is expected
to close before year-end, subject to customary closing
conditions.

our company a seasoned global perspective and an outstanding track
record of building and managing financial organizations.”
Most recently, Mr. Murphy, 53, was Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer of Sunoco Logistics Partners, L.P. Sunoco
Logistics is a $7-billion, publicly held company engaged in the
transport, terminalling and storage of refined products and crude
oil and the purchase and sale of crude oil. At Sunoco, Mr. Murphy
was a member of a five-person leadership team and led the Finance,
Information Technology, Human Resources, and Investor Relations
functions.
Prior to joining Sunoco Logistics, Mr. Murphy held Chief
Financial Officer positions with Quaker Chemical Corporation, a
global producer of industrial lubricants and coatings, from 2004 to
2007, and with International Specialty Products, a global producer
of specialty chemicals, from 2002 to 2004. From 1989 to 2001, Mr.
Murphy held financial positions in the United States for PQ
Corporation, a world leader in soluble silicates and engineered
glass materials, and also was president of PQ Corporation’s
European operations. Mr. Murphy began his career in 1979 at Coopers
& Lybrand, where he served for a decade with a client focus on
utilities, energy and manufacturing.
Mr. Murphy received a BS degree in Accounting from Villanova
University in 1979 and an MS degree in Taxation from Widener
University in 1985. He also completed Harvard University’s 11-week
International Executive Advanced Management Program. He is a
Certified Public Accountant.
