NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network and
identity management solutions, announced today that on February 27,
2008, the NEC Express5800/1320Xf server with NEC S2500 storage reported
the highest TPC-E performance benchmark result in the industry.
In this specific TPC-E benchmark, the NEC Express5800/1320Xf achieved
1,126.49 tpsE (transactions per second-E) outperforming the next highest
system by 70%. The price per performance was $2,771.79/tpsE,
demonstrating the power of an NEC Enterprise Server solution with its
S-Series storage arrays running 32 Dual-Core Intel®
Itanium® 9150
processors, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition for
Itanium-based Systems on the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 operating
system. This is the first TPC-E result on an Intel Itanium-based server
product.
“Twice within a month, NEC has enjoyed top
rankings on the TPC’s rigorous testing with
its Express5800 Enterprise Servers. We are very proud to have achieved
this record-breaking scale up performance and to secure the top position
in TPC-E performance,” said Mike Mitsch,
general manager, Enterprise Server Division of NEC Corporation of
America. “The TPC-E result is further proof
that NEC’s Enterprise servers and storage
deliver the scalability and performance required by modern OLTP system
workloads.”
Developed for over ten years and leveraging NEC’s
award-winning supercomputer and mainframe technology, NEC
Express5800/1000 series servers meet mission critical business needs for
the enterprise. The NEC Express5800/1320Xf is the third-generation NEC
Express5800/1000 series Intel Itanium processors server product
incorporating NEC’s innovative A3 chipset. NEC’s
A3 chipset contributes to the server’s
outstanding reliability, availability, serviceability (RAS), scalability
and performance.
“This record-breaking TPC-E performance shows
what is possible when our industry partners utilize industry leading
technology, such as NEC’s Enterprise Server,
and the enhancements of SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008,”
said David Powell, Director, SQL Server Performance at Microsoft Corp. “This
is further evidence SQL Server 2008 meets the most mission critical
needs of the most demanding OLTP system workloads.”
The TPC-E benchmark, introduced in February 2007, simulates the OLTP
workload of a brokerage firm. The focus of the benchmark is the central
database that executes transactions related to the firm’s
customer accounts. Although the underlying business model of TPC-E is a
brokerage firm, the database schema, data population, transactions, and
implementation rules have been designed to be broadly representative of
modern OLTP systems.
