An exhibition which presents the experiences and outcomes of the 2014 Charnwood Arts (UK) Internship, led by Assistant Professor Ming Turner from the Institute of Creative Industries Design (ICID), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), will be staged at C-Hub from March 9 to 13.

The exhibition will display a selected body of photographs, taken by a group of NCKU students during the internship period, covering their work, life and play while in the UK.

According to Turner, the team is composed of 10 MA and Ph.D. students from ICID, who traveled to the UK and worked with Charnwood Arts from July 21 until September 1 in 2014.

A short film was produced to document some of the key moments and events during the internship.

The ICID Ph.D. student Ho Ching-Chwang, who is also a contemporary calligraphy artist, will exhibit a series of works which she made during her visit to the UK.

Several sound pieces which are edited recordings of sound from the environment in Loughborough and its locals and created by the interns will also be included in the show.

Turner said that the internship project was supported with generous funding from the Ministry of Education and NCKU. “The internship was very successful and beneficial, both to the students involved and to Charnwood Arts itself,” she added.

She also said, with the generous support of the CEO of Charnwood Arts, Kevin Ryan, several workshops with visual, performance and sound artists in the UK were organized for the students, specifically to provide both general and essential skills for event management and the development of arts activities.

Kevin Ryan will be visiting NCKU from March 2 to 15. Kevin will deliver a talk introducing Charnwood Arts as a NGO and cultural organization, and will explain its engagement with local communities via the means of art.

The talk is scheduled for Thursday March 5, from 3-5 p.m., to be held at ICID (5F of the Shakeproof Building).

A discussion forum with Kevin, all interns and Assistant Professor Turner, will be held on March 12, from 2-5 p.m. on the 3rd floor at C-Hub, during which they will share details their experiences during the internship.
