LONDON (AFX) - Menswear retailer Moss Bros Group has remained silent on
reports that it is in talks with one of its shareholders, Icelandic retail
investor Baugur, about a potential takeover.
"This is complete speculation and we can't confirm it," a Moss Bros
spokesman said.
The Financial Mail on Sunday and Retail Week reported that the head of
Baugur's UK division, Gunnar Sigursson, has held a series of meetings in the
past few weeks with the Moss Bros board.
Moss Bros' chairman Keith Hamill is understood to be ready to recommend an
offer of close to 80 mln stg, but Baugur believes this to overvalue the firm,
the Financial Mail reported.
Baugur and British retail entrepreneur Kevin Stanford already own just under
29 pct of Moss Bros through their Unity Investments vehicle.
