MOSCOW (Thomson Financial) - Shares were up slightly in late afternoon trade
as UES and Russia's oil and gas producers gained ground in the first day of
trading since last Wednesday.
At 5:23 p.m., the RTS index was up 2.23 points, or 0.11 percent, at
2,143.31.
UES climbed $0.042, or 4.41 percent, at $0.995 after its OGK-1 utility
reported first-quarter net profit of 310.7 million roubles on sales of 13.591
billion roubles.
Oil and gas producers were also in the black as crude futures held on to
Friday's gains on concerns that unrest in Nigeria would reduce supplies.
New York-traded West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery was up 33
cents to $116.65 a barrel.
In London, Brent crude for June delivery was up 19 cents at $114.75. Trading
volume in London was light as the United Kingdom enjoys a bank holiday.
Lukoil climbed $0.20 at $89.80, while natural gas, oil and utilities
conglomerate Gazprom gained $0.01 at $13.21.
Among decliners Volga Telecom lost $0.20, or 4.21 percent, at $4.55,
Sibirtelekom fell $0.003 at $0.0895 and Severstal Auto fell $1.25 at $61.75.
