MARKET OVERVIEW In overseas trading, activity is looking rather grim, as only two of the 15 indices that we track are currently in positive territory. The cumulative average return on the group stands at -0.303. In Asia, Japan's Nikkei topped 15,000 for the first time in almost five years on Wednesday, but those gains were not meant to last. The index sold off in the closing minutes of the session, as traders took profits on the recent run higher in the tech sector. Meanwhile, European shares are taking it on the chin this morning, as traders are reacting to a down session in U.S. trading on Tuesday.
The December crude futures contract tumbled 1.50 percent lower on Tuesday. However, this decline arrived despite today's impending report on the status of U.S. crude supplies which are expected to reveal the first sizable inventory declines of the season for commodities. In early trading, crude futures have slipped another 53 cents to $55.97 per barrel.

As Andrew says: "Changing World Technologies is a small, New York-based company that specializes in turning the country's waste into alternative fuels and specialty chemicals. One of the many resources it uses to create its products is organic waste, like carcasses from slaughtered holiday turkeys. Through the companies Thermal Conversion Process, it can take a wide variety of organic and inorganic waste and recycle it into something usable. It essentially mimics the earth's natural geothermal process, except its process is much shorter than the millions of years Mother Nature requires to produce a barrel of oil. For example, in just a few hours, Changing World Technologies can turn 100 pounds of turkey waste into 39 pounds of oil, 6 pounds of natural gas, 5 pounds of carbon, and 50 pounds of fresh water. And at Thanksgiving/Christmas time, with two major, turkey-based holidays in the space of a month, imagine the resources that could be created if every turkey were sent for waste processing. But inorganic items such as tires and plastics can also be recycled into valuable resources. Just 100 pounds of used tires can be refined into 44 pounds of oil, 10 pounds of gas, 42 pounds of carbon, and 4 pounds of water." This development is well worth watching. Yes, the refining process is still quite expensive. But that's usually the case with recycling and refining. And in order for it to truly take off, Changing World Technologies will need to build more refineries. The company is currently privately-owned, but an IPO could greatly help fund its activities. Snyder says that this is an industry poised to make a lot of smart investors very rich in the not-so-distant future.
