Healthy Cleveland Will Connect Key Children’s Wellness
Programs; Kicks Off With Playground Build at Erie Square
Apartments
Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) today announced Healthy Cleveland, part
of the Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities initiative which aims to
deliver a linked network of wellness, nutrition and play resources
to children in underserved communities. Healthy Cleveland launched
with the construction of a new playground at the Cleveland Housing
Network’s Erie Square Apartments, where Morgan Stanley employees
joined local volunteers and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated
to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all
children, to complete the new play space in just one day.
Over the next year, Morgan Stanley’s Healthy Cleveland plans to
deliver over 710,000 healthy meals; nutrition education, health
screening and healthy snack programs for 2,000 students; regular
fitness programs for 700+ students and safe play spaces for 1,000
children. Morgan Stanley employees will play an integral role in
implementing and sustaining the programming and will provide more
than 2,000 hours of volunteer service.
“We are truly excited to expand our Healthy Cities initiative to
Cleveland and deliver programming that reinforces our firm’s global
commitment to improving children’s health,” said Joan Steinberg,
Global Head of Philanthropy, Morgan Stanley. “Our employees are
honored to help kick off Healthy Cleveland with today’s playground
build, and together with our local nonprofit partners we look
forward to strengthening the network of nutrition, wellness and
play services available to children in need in Cleveland.”
In the U.S., Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities works with national
nonprofit partners Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic
hunger-relief charity, and KaBOOM!, as well as key local
organizations to implement important children’s health programming
in each city. In Cleveland, local nonprofit partners include
Cleveland Housing Network, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the
Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the Cleveland
Clinic.
“The powerful combination of healthy foods, safe play and
wellness that Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities will help us bring to
our schools is truly exciting, and we look forward to seeing the
impact this program can have on Cleveland’s children,” said Alison
Black, Site Coordinator, Case Middle School, a Cleveland
Metropolitan School District school.
“We are so excited to be part of the Morgan Stanley Healthy
Cities program which will provide us with the opportunity to expand
our school pantry program and collaborate with other nonprofits to
deliver additional resources that provide children with the
building blocks they need for a successful start,” said Kristin
Warzocha, CEO, Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities was launched in 2014 in Chicago,
IL; Newark , NJ, and Oakland, CA. Across all three locations,
Healthy Cities has delivered 586,592 nutritious meals, 1,228
medical screenings and safe play spaces for more than 3,000 kids as
