Mobility Electronics Signs License and Purchasing Agreement With Valence
Technology
New Products to Leverage Mobility's Power Technology and Intellectual Property
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mobility Electronics, Inc. , a leading provider of innovative portable computing solutions for the mobile
electronics device user, and Valence Technology, Inc. , a leader in the
development and commercialization of Saphion(R) technology, a safer Lithium-ion
rechargeable battery technology, today announced an agreement to integrate their
technologies to market a family of universal batteries for electronic devices
based on Valence's Saphion technology and Mobility's power technology and
intellectual property.
The universal batteries developed under this agreement will enable electronic
device users to purchase only one battery that can be used to power virtually
all portable computers, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other electronic
devices. The universal batteries will connect to the electronic device through
a thin cable (Mobility's peripheral powering system) and interchangeable
intelligent tips.
"Valence's Saphion technology has enabled the development of safe,
environmentally friendly solutions which meet the needs of today's new
mobility," stated Charlie Mollo, CEO of Mobility Electronics. "We are eager to
enter the universal battery market and look forward to doing so with the Valence
team." Following is an overview of the scope of this agreement:
-- Mobility has agreed to provide engineering assistance to Valence for
the integration of Mobility's line of intelligent tips into the design
of the universal batteries. -- Valence will purchase intelligent tips and related peripheral powering
system (PPS) products, as needed, from Mobility for the universal
batteries that it manufactures. -- Mobility will also serve as a distributor of the new line of universal
batteries through its various distribution channels.
Saphion technology, developed by Valence, features enhanced safety, high
performance, and environmentally friendly batteries with a long life and low
cost. The Saphion technology has proven its functionality in the N-Charge(TM)
Power System, an ideal solution for the frequent traveler and vertical markets
that require all day power, such as classrooms and hospitals.
"We continuously strive to bring our customers safe technology in powerful
products that meet the increasing demand for mobility," stated Stephan Godevais,
chairman and CEO of Valence. "The versatility and flexibility of Mobility's
highly differentiated technology will allow our products to power a wide variety
of mobile devices from digital cameras to notebook PCs." About Valence Technology, Inc.
