REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Microsoft Corp. said Monday it signed an exclusivity
agreement with Musiwave SA that could lead to a possible acquisition of the
French cell-phone music company.
A deal with parent Openwave Systems Inc. for the division would allow
Microsoft to apply Musiwave's relationships with music labels, device makers and
network operators to services such as Windows Mobile, Zune, MSN and Windows
Live. Musiwave offers ringtones, music downloads, video clips and other services
for mobile phones.
If the deal goes through, Musiwave would maintain its headquarters in Paris,
Microsoft said.
Neither financial terms nor a timeline for the possible deal were disclosed.
Microsoft shares fell 32 cents to $33.41 in early trading.
