BLACKWOOD, N.J., March 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Metrologic Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ:MTLG), today announced that it has signed a strategic partnering agreement with Intelli-Check, Inc. (AMEX:IDN). Intelli- Check is an acknowledged leader in technology that assures the encoded data on identification cards complies with the issuing jurisdiction's unique specification for driver licenses; state issued non-driver, and military identification cards used as proof of identity.
Under terms of the agreement, Metrologic will supply Intelli-Check with a customized version of Focus(R), a handheld 1D and 2D imaging scanner. Intelli-Check will then bundle the Focus with a new version of its patented ID-CHECK technology. The agreement results in the ability to provide customers with a high performance imaging bar code scanner along with industry-leading software that is designed to assure the encoded data on identification cards complies with the issuing jurisdiction's unique specification. Metrologic and Intelli-Check will jointly market and sell this new bundled solution.
Focus with ID-CHECK technology will be used in numerous applications within a host of markets that will benefit from scanning driver licenses. Age verification, applying for store credit, and security checks are but a few examples of how Focus with ID-CHECK will be put to use in automating the process of checking IDs in a wide variety of retail, security, supermarket, and financial markets.
Greg DiNoia, Vice President, Metrologic - The Americas stated, "Intelli- Check is clearly a leader in the ID authentication space. They have identified and addressed the numerous nuances relating to the encoding formats and the 2D bar code printing techniques used on driver licenses. I am pleased that our product combination, engineering collaboration, and a superb cultural fit helped move the relationship to this next level. The combination of Intelli-Check's technology with Metrologic's leadership position in scanning, together with the resources available from our two companies, should prove to be extremely beneficial to our companies." "We are excited about this new business partnership because we can efficiently supply product to a large number of companies that want to add drivers license reading technology to their own applications," stated Ric Huck, Intelli-Check's VP of Strategic Business Development. Mr. Huck added, "Through our extensive testing, we have found the Focus imager, featuring Omniplanar's decoding algorithms, to have very high performance, and to be the most flexible of all image-based scanners we tested. In many environments, the availability of counter space is limited and the ability to eliminate multiple devices on the counter is very important. Thus, the bundled Intelli- Check/Metrologic Focus solution gives a retailer the ability to use one device for traditional retail scanning, driver license reading, document image capture, and possibly even check reading. This product adds many layers of uses which helps with the return on capital investment for our customers," concluded Huck.
