As the brightest minds in health care technology convene next week,
Mercy will take center stage, and with momentum – a culmination of
three national technology awards.
Mercy, a recipient of the Healthcare Information and Management
Systems Society (HIMSS) Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence,
will be honored at the 2017 Annual HIMSS conference for its use of
health technology to improve patient care while achieving cost
savings.
As an award recipient and thought leader, Mercy will share case
studies and lessons learned with other health care organizations
during the following presentations:
- An overview of its Davies award-winning Clinical
Pathways case study demonstrating how Mercy decreased by nearly
three hours the time it took to administer a diuretic to patients
with heart failure. The clinical process helped Mercy achieve
mortality rates that are less than half the national average for
heart failure patients.
- Using data to predict medication usage and provide better
quality care for patients.
- During an invitation-only event, Mercy experts will discuss how
it made improvements in clinical documentation ensuring physicians
properly code clinical diagnoses to align the appropriate revenue –
an initiative recognized by the Davies Award.
- As an Epic EHR early adopter, Mercy Technology Services, the IT
arm of Mercy, will share lessons to help others install and
optimize Epic, as well as discuss the benefits of cloud hosting and
disaster recovery for all mission-critical health care
applications. Mercy is partnering with NetApp for an executive
learning event on these topics.
Heading into the HIMSS conference, Mercy was also named one

Informatics magazine, achieving a second
place Healthcare Informatics Innovator Award. Judges touted
Mercy's clinical pathways program, and its work in partnership
with Ayasdi, which taps into millions of pieces of patient data to
find hidden patterns and save more lives.
That achievement comes on the heels of Mercy's
inaugural Analytics 50 Award from CIO
Magazine. The health system was honored for using surgical
procedure data to achieve $9.42
million in cost reductions, eliminate or minimize the use of
certain surgical products, reduce variation in surgical protocols,
establish best practices across surgical departments and ensure
quality post-operative results for patients.
The clinical pathways work and data-driven surgical achievements
were also Davies winning case studies.
