NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Merck & Co. said Friday a Phase III trial of
telcagepant showed "significantly improved relief" of migraine pain two hours
after dosage when compared to placebo.
The company added that the efficacy results for the product were similar to
zolmitriptan, while having a lower incidence of adverse events. Zolmitriptan is
an approved migraine treatment.
Merck expects to file a New Drug Application for telcagepant in 2009.
Shares of Merck, a Dow component, rose 2.1% to $36.96 in morning trading
Friday. The stock is down 38% since the start of the year.
