OSLO (Thomson Financial) - Marine Harvest ASA said its fish harvest volumes
during the first quarter came in at 83,642 tonnes, well ahead of the 70,000
tonne figure given as guidance at the time of its fourth quarter results.
For the first quarter, the fish farmer said its operations in Norway
produced 40,353 tonnes, while in Chile, the production figure came in at 24,022
tonnes.
Marine Harvest, like other fish farmers, has been suffering from problems
with the health of its fish stocks in Chile, and today it said its chief
executive in the country, Torben Petersen, has decided to resign upon the expiry
of his existing contract.
Until a replacement can be found, Marine Harvest said the CEO duties will be
fulfilled by Alvaro Jimenez Seminario, an existing member of the firm's Chile/US
management team.
