Hungarian telecommunications company Magyar Telekom Nyrt.'s (MTA) television subscriber base has reached 500,000, raising its share of the pay television market to 19%, the company said Friday.
The expansion is in line with the company's plans to become a leader in Hungary's pay television market within five years, Chairman and Chief Executive Christopher Mattheisen said earlier.
The pay television market includes satellite, Internet protocol and cable television services. Magyar Telekom launched IPTV services in November 2006.
Magyar Telekom is Hungary's principal provider of fixed-line and data telecom services. It is also the largest mobile operator in the country, with a market share of around 45%. Management control lies with Deutsche Telekom AG (DT), which holds almost 60%.
