FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Macquarie Group Limited views the
high-voltage grid of German utility E.ON AG. as consistent with the business
model of its infrastructure funds and therefore is interested in acquiring it, a
spokeswoman said.
E.ON plans to sell its German power grid as well as 4,800 MW power
generation capacity in a deal with the European commission to end a pending
anti-trust investigation.
"We are interested in stable, long-term investments in infrastructure, and
these assets fit with that model. They have the characteristics that we look
for," the spokeswoman said.
"If these assets were put up for sale, we would be interested," she said.
A sale of E.ON's grid is likely to take up to two years, according to
industry sources.
The creation of a holding that combines all four German high-voltage grids
is also on the table. The other three grids are operated by utilities RWE AG.,
Vattenfall Europe AG. and EnBW.
