MARKET OVERVIEW Overseas markets are keeping trade close to the flat-line as nine of the 15
markets that we track are positive with a cumulative average return on the group
standing at plus 0.106 percent. The November Services Purchasing Managers'
Index (PMI services) in Germany rose to 55.4 from 53.7 in October on expectation
for a 54.2 reading. The services PMI is sitting at levels not seen since
September 2000. The Frankfurt DAX has already hit another 52-week high in early
trade.
Before the market open today, we get treated to the final look at Third- Quarter
Productivity and Costs. Productivity is now expected to have risen by 9.2
percent versus the last reported and obscenely high plus 8.1 percent. Although a
key number, the report is old data that has been supplanted by subsequent
reports on jobs and producer/consumer prices. Recall that the surge in
productivity by the American worker was also a contributing factor to the lack
of hiring by Corporate America, but recent data has shown an improving labor
picture. Also, during the heyday of growth in the late 90's, improving
productivity, at least temporarily, kept the Federal Reserve at bay in holding
the line on rising interest rates. At 10:00 a.m., the November Institute of
Supply Management Non-Manufacturing Business Index is expected to continue with
its winning ways, seen at 65.4 versus the prior month's reading of 64.7.
