MARKET OVERVIEW Overseas markets are looking quite chipper this morning as 14 of the 15 markets
that we track are currently in positive territory. The cumulative average
return on the group stands at a plus 0.767 percent. In the "for-what-
it's-worth" segment, Japan's Department store sales fell for a second
consecutive month, declining by 1.0 percent in April on a year-over-year basis. This fall off comes on the heels of a 4.7 percent decline in March.
Not much penciled into the schedule today, as an appearance by Treasury
Secretary Snow at an entrepreneur conference in New York should offer up
nothing to move the market and just three companies on the dwindling list of
earnings reports today. This earnings season "unofficially" comes to an end
with the H.J. Heinz report scheduled for tomorrow (although a few key reports
are yet waiting in the wings). The economic calendar picks up on Tuesday and
should keep traders occupied through the end of the week. So, as far as today
is concerned it looks like news out of the "oil-pit" called OPEC and other
worldly events will continue to command center stage. Possibly impacting
tomorrow's session will be President Bush's address to the nation this evening. Stay tuned.

Zone group, advised his readers to liquidate their long investment positions.
He based it on the fact that the major indices had broken their uptrend cycles,
as well as the historical first bear market rally lasting about 18 months.
Since the NASDAQ set a top of 2,153, DeHaemer has observed lower highs and
lower lows -- the classic definition of a bear market trend. He also noted
that three years after the economic bubbles burst in the US in 1929 and Japan
in 1990, their significant bull markets lasted about 18 months. That happened
in 2003 with the NASDAQ. Analyzing the weekly chart, it shows a rounding top
formation with the last major support at 1,500. Although it closed Friday at
1,912.09 that drop might not be so far-fetched -- the last time the index hit
that level was as recently as October 2002. DeHaemer doesn't think it will be
impossible to make money going long over the next few months -- it will just be
more difficult. As such, he advises his investors to look for overlooked,
undervalued companies, while shorting the broader market and wait until the
index hits 1,500, which will likely occur in September or October. Once it
does, that will signal a great buying opportunity, just in time for the US
presidential election.
