MARKET OVERVIEW

Overseas markets seem hesitant to stray too far from their break-even numbers as just six of the 13 actively trading bourses are currently positive. The cumulative average return on the 13 stands at minus 0.103 percent. The Nikkei will be closed through Wednesday in observance of the Golden Week holiday and the FTSE 100 is closed today in observance of the May-Day Holiday.

Manufacturing in the Euro-Zone continues to show improvement. Rising for an eighth consecutive month, the Purchasing Managers' manufacturing Index (PMI) hit 54.0 in April versus the 53.3 posted in March. Analysts following the report had predicted a reading of 53.7. Considering the relative strength of the euro over this eight month time frame, the report is quite encouraging.

Today's economic data does not start to flow until the 10:00 a.m. hour. March Construction Spending is expected to have risen by 0.6 percent, improving on February's surprise 0.1 percent decline. The manufacturing sector is expected to continue recent strength as the April Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Manufacturing Index is seen at 62.5, matching March's robust 62.5. If Chicago Purchasing Management April Index (CPMI) which was released this past Friday is any indication, these estimates may be a bit conservative. Recall that the CPMI jumped to 63.9 versus March's 57.6. Two key components to come out of this report are the employment figures and the prices paid index. After all, the Fed meets tomorrow and the market is quite apprehensive on employment as well as any tendency toward the inflation.

DYNAMIC MARKET OPPORTUNITIES

After months of speculation, Google filed its IPO last week -- a massive $2.7 billion launch that makes it the biggest dotcom offering in history. Unusually, Google will sell its shares through an auction, with its share price set by the public bidding process. Several key questions remain however, including how many shares Google will offer, plus the issue of what exchange Google will trade on -- the NYSE or NASDAQ. But thanks to the SEC, at least investors know the company's financials. Executives were delighted to report an impressive $106.5 million profit to $962 million in 2003 after a remarkable 177% surge in sales from a year earlier. Google's IPO is so big and so important that it could be a major catalyst that drives the market to new highs. Elsewhere, the Profit Hog team remains bullish on Taser International, despite its recent slump in value after assertions that its Taser stun guns have contributed to 40 deaths. But the company has fought back, criticizing the "premature, unfounded speculation" and citing autopsy results that prove the direct cause of death arose for other reasons. Taser CEO Rick Smith continues: "The sensationalism of these media reports is extremely disconcerting given the proven safety of these products in tens of thousands of uses." The Profit Hog investors aren't worried about the impact on the stock and continue to hold after Taser's 2:1 split last Friday.

11:30 a.m.: Treasury Secretary Snow speaks to Council of the Americas in Washington.

3:00 p.m.: Treasury's Borrowing Needs for the second quarter.
