MARKET OVERVIEW Overseas markets need to pay more attention to U.S. futures trade as just five
of the 15 markets that we track are currently positive. The cumulative average
return on the group stands at a minus 0.347 percent, weighed down by the 2.46
percent decline in the Nikkei overnight. Unconfirmed reports that claim that
two more Japanese hostages were taken in Iraq is dampening sentiment on the
Japanese exchanges. Volumes were said to have been quite heavy with big banks
suffering the brunt of the punishment.
Bright and early at 8:15 a.m. this morning, Fed Chairman Greenspan speaks via
satellite to the Atlanta Fed conference in Sea Island, Georgia. Not sure of
the content or if there will be a question and answer session, but with recent
economic data pointing to a potential interest rate hike, his comments could be
quite telling. At 8:30 a.m., Initial Jobless Claims for the week ending April
10 are expected to have risen by 7,000, offsetting fully one-half of the prior
week's surprise 14,000 decline to a seasonally adjusted 328,000. Also during
that prior week, the four-week average dropped by 3,250 to 366,750, setting its
lowest level since the week ending November 25, 2000. Sharing the 8:30 a.m. spotlight, the April Empire State Manufacturing Index is expected to continue
its winning ways growing to 26.8 from the already robust 25.33 reported in
March. The fixed income group could see a little volatility in response to the
9:30 a.m. appearance by Chicago Fed Pres Moskow in Chicago. Once again, any
hint of a hawkish stance on interest rates could roil the group. At high noon,
the Philadelphia Fed Index will be released. This index too is expected to
rise from an already high level. Analysts expect the February reading to rise
to 25.5 from January's 24.2 posting. For reference purposes, any reading
greater than zero indicates expansion in the index or any of it components.

http://www.investorsobserver.com/freemo DYNAMIC MARKET OPPORTUNITIES Another tepid day for the U.S. markets yesterday after March consumer prices
rose by a larger than expected 0.5%. Gasoline prices recorded the biggest rise
(1.9%). Transportation prices also climbed 1.1%. That sent fears of rising
interest rates reverberating around Wall Street, with investors in a selling
mood. Despite posting a 20% first quarter sales rise, Intel's numbers also
fell short of expectations. McDonald's posted a strong 10% rise in same-store
sales growth, but that too was less than expected. However, Midway Games'
shares shot up 14.5% to $8.30 on news that Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone,
already a voracious buyer, disclosed that he may soon boost his holdings, or
even buy the company outright. Redstone is already Midway's largest
shareholder with 48% ownership. This comes despite Midway's failure to post a
quarterly net/operating profit in four years, a streak that it expects to end
during the current quarter, thanks to strong sales of new games "The Suffering"
and "NBA Ballers." The company recently raised its first quarter sales
projections on the news. Redstone's decision also came just hours after Midway
announced it would sell close to 11.3 million shares, which could dilute shares
by up to 20%. Members of Ian Cooper's Profit Hog Insider investment group have
already taken significant profits on Midway's rise.
