(Adds detail from UK MoD statement)
PARIS (Thomson Financial) - The UK's Ministry of Defence said it has awarded
support contracts worth 300 million pounds for the Royal Navy's Seawolf air
defence missile system.
The contracts were awarded to missile manufacturer MBDA and BAE Systems
Insyte under the Seawolf In Service Support (SWISS) project, to sustain the
capability of the Seawolf system, ensure its readiness and improve its
availability to the front-line fleet by at least 25 per cent over the next nine
years, said the ministry in a statement.
The value of the contract with BAE is 141 million pounds while MBDA's is
worth 177 million pounds, it said.
In a separate statement, MBDA, which is owned by BAE and EADS with a 37.5
percent stake each, and Finmeccanica with 25 percent, said the SWISS contract
will sustain the Seawolf system, ensuring it is ready for deployment with the
Navy's Type 22 and Type 23 frigates for the next 10 years.
