Students Shadow Professionals to Learn About Public Relations in a Real-Life Setting
WOBURN, Mass., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Lois Paul & Partners (LP&P) LLC, a provider of strategic communications services for high-tech and life sciences companies, welcomed a group of students from Woburn High School to its headquarters in Woburn on May 7, 2008. The event was the agency's third annual "Career Day," in which local students learn firsthand the basics of public relations from LP&P employees of all levels.
The students, made up of juniors and seniors, were greeted by agency President and founder, Lois Paul who welcomed them to the office and provided and overview of the day's agenda. Students then broke into smaller groups and "shadowed" agency employees to get a sense of the daily activities of a public relations representative. Following that, LP&P employees led informational sessions of several aspects of a PR agency, including social media, new business, local media strategies, IT, and finance. Employees and students gathered for a pizza "networking" lunch to close out the event.
"I learned a lot about public relations today, and it was really exciting to get an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at what it is to work at a PR agency, as well as an office environment in general," said Kyle Mahoney, a senior at Woburn High School. "It was interesting to hear from the younger professionals at the agency because they are only a few years ahead of where I am right now. Hearing about how their life experiences affected their career decisions was very helpful." The event was coordinated by the agency's "Partners for Change" committee and Junior Achievement, the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.
"We were delighted to have students from Woburn High School visit us," said Carol Williamson, manager of administrative services at LP&P. "While we work with clients on a global basis, we feel it's especially important to support the local community, where many of our employees live and raise families of their own. It was gratifying to see the students get a sense of what we do and why we do it, and I hope they enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having them." Supporting information and resources:
