Logitech Chooses Packeteer(R) to Ensure Performance of Global Converged Data,
Video and Voice Networks
Packeteer Application Traffic Management system chosen by Logitech as converged
global network replaces ISDN video, ISDN voice, and two IP data Networks
CUPERTINO, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Packeteer(R), Inc. , a
leading provider of Application Traffic Management solutions, today announced
that Logitech , a leading developer of hardware peripherals for PCs and console
entertainment systems, has deployed Packeteer to ensure performance of
applications on a newly converged network at 13 sites around the globe.
Logitech's legacy frame-relay network, incorporated four independent networks --
two frame relay networks for different purposes, a voice network and video
network over ISDN line. Logitech addressed QoS issues by giving each traffic
type a permanent virtual circuit (PVC). The company considered this a
less-than-optimal solution. In the words of Pierre-Olivier Monnier, CTOof
Logitech, "We decided that it was time to do something smarter." Packeteer delivers an Application Traffic Management system via intelligent
appliances at the LAN/WAN interface. This helps enterprises maximize IT
investments by aligning network applications and resources with business needs,
and providing significant cost savings in the process. The Packeteer system
protects and accelerates key business applications and controls malicious,
recreational and other non-business traffic.
"I wanted to merge my data network for access to ERP applications; a data
network for internal communication, data base replication, file-transfer, and
e-mail; and a VoIP network for communications between our various sites around
the world. Plus, I wanted to add videoconferencing capabilities," said Monnier. "Packeteer had the technology that we needed to make it successful." Logitech integrated 13 sites around the world -- five in ASPAC, three in the
U.S. and the remainder in Europe. All sites have at least one Packeteer
appliance, and often more than one. Deploying the solution on both the WAN and
Internet connections at certain sites gives Monnier more granular control of
business applications.
"Without Packeteer, I can't run the network I have today," said Monnier. "In a
global organization such as ours, there is always a geography that is just
waking up and sending that first round of e-mails, conducting ERP transactions,
or doing videoconferences. You have to have the right resources in place to
allow them to do those things. Packeteer allows us to be the traffic cop -- the
light signals on the freeway, to keep things moving, to avoid traffic jams, and
to keep all of our customers happy." "VoIP systems and technology has matured quite a bit over the last few years,"
said Franklyn Jones, director of solutions marketing for Packeteer. "As
enterprise customers prepare to deliver voice and data traffic over a converged
IP infrastructure, Packeteer's Application Traffic Management solutions play a
pivotal role by ensuring that all the traffic on these networks, including delay
and latency-sensitive voice and video, get the network resources necessary to
meet business needs." About Packeteer Based in Cupertino, Calif., Packeteer(R) (NASDAQ:PKTR) is a leading provider of
