MCS Asia and Fairwood Music sign groundbreaking music licensing deal with Nike
for China and South East Asia
Nike to deploy classic hit "Heroes" performed by David Bowie in a Chinese sports
documentary and TV commercials
Hong Kong, 9 May 2008 - MCS Asia ("MCS") in conjunction with Fairwood Music
(South East Asia) ("Fairwood") is delighted to announce that it has signed a
music licensing agreement with Nike China. MCS has licensed the publishing
rights in legendary song "Heroes" composed by rock icons David Bowie and Brian
Eno. The music publishing rights to the song are controlled by RZO Music Ltd ("
RZO"), and administered by Fairwood and MCS in Asia.
"Heroes" will appear in a 26-minute Nike film documentary about sports in China
entitled "DARE" as part of Nike's China and South East Asia marketing campaigns.
The documentary will air nationally on satellite television and on China Central
Television's ("CCTV") broadcast network across China. "DARE" will air up to ten
times in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the
Philippines.
Nike's marketing campaign that commenced in February is supported by two TV
advertisements of 30 and 60 seconds featuring music-fuelled sports montages
synchronised to the song "Heroes". Additional uses permitted under the agreement
include distribution by way of promotional DVD give-aways, and viewing on Nike's
China website (www.nike.com.cn).
CCTV is China's leading broadcaster in terms of national reach, and market share
and it is anticipated that several hundred million viewers in China alone will
see the production. In addition to the undisclosed license fee, MCS Asia will
earn administration fees from public performance revenues it collects in China
and in the other licensed territories.
