Law Enforcement Associates Announces Major Product Extensions to Successful UVIS Line

New Explosive Protection and Inspection Systems will be Introduced at Upcoming Symposium on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)

YOUNGSVILLE, N.C., June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Law Enforcement Associates Corporation (LEA) (AMEX:AID), a leading provider of surveillance and security products to the global law enforcement, military, security and corrections markets, today announced that it will introduce two product extensions to its successful Under Vehicle Inspection System (UVIS) line at the upcoming IED 2006 Symposium & Expo.

The new products are the UVIS-BPC (Blast Protection Checkpoint), a mobile, highly fortified ballistic guard station designed to provide enhanced protection to check-point personnel operating UVIS platforms; and the UVIS- Swift, a compact, highly portable version of the traditional UVIS. Both products were designed to address the growing threat IEDs are posing to military and civilian personnel at vulnerable locations worldwide.

The UVIS-BPC is a 5-foot-by-7-foot, trailer-mounted guard station that can be set up and operational within 20 minutes. The station, which can be equipped with either 30-caliber or 50-caliber ballistic protection, also features an advanced two-way audio/video system and up to 150 feet of military-grade extension cable, which will allow personnel to operate and monitor the UVIS away from a potential blast zone. Other features include a 6500-watt generator, four 300-watt floodlights, heat and air-conditioning systems and a heavy-duty, highway-ready trailer.

The UVIS-Swift is a compact version of LEA's traditional UVIS, which has been installed at approximately 1,700 locations worldwide. The new lightweight system features the same advanced wide-angle, low-light camera system as the legacy UVIS, but also is lightweight, has a lower profile, and is easily transported. Additionally, it will be sold at a lower price point, which will allow LEA to market the product to a range of potential new domestic and international market segments.

Paul Feldman, president, said, "Improvised explosive devices are killing and injuring both military and civilian personnel at an alarming rate, and the threat these devises pose is not limited to the current regions of military conflict. These new products are designed to help mitigate the threat of IEDs, both as detection devices and as deterrents. The lower cost and greater portability of the UVIS-Swift will allow us to market the product to a broad base of potential new customers, including industrial, research and correctional facilities; airports; armories; municipal buildings and parking garages."

LEA will introduce the UVIS-BPC and the UVIS-Swift at the IED 2006 Symposium & Expo, which is being held June 12 - 14, 2006, at the Crown Expo Center in Fayetteville, N.C. The Expo will bring together members of the military, research and academic communities to discuss innovations and existing products and services that can be applied to the IED threat. The event is the only conference with an Expo component dedicated solely to the IED situation.
