Continuing its Earth Day tradition, national builder releases its comprehensive 2014 report

KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation’s largest and most recognized homebuilders, today released its eighth annual Sustainability Report, available exclusively at www.kbhome.com/sustainability. KB Home issued its inaugural report in 2008 and is among a group of corporate leaders in sustainability that publishes a comprehensive annual sustainability report.

The latest report covers KB Home’s sustainability initiatives and activities during 2014 measuring progress against its goals. Achievements during the reporting period included lowering the average Home Energy Ratings System (HERS) Index Score of its new homes for the seventh straight year, advancing its homes’ water efficiency, and continuing progress on a range of other sustainability objectives.

“KB Home is proud to publish our eighth annual Sustainability Report on Earth Day,” said Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief executive officer of KB Home. “We remain committed to leading the homebuilding industry in the area of sustainability and are pleased with our accomplishments to date.”

Today, a new KB home is 68% more energy efficient and uses 30,000 fewer gallons of water annually compared to a typical resale home without the energy- and water-efficient features that KB Home includes as standard. Based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates the nearly 90,000 ENERGY STAR® certified KB homes built to date are projected to save homeowners more than $28 million on utility bills annually, lowering the total cost of homeownership while also helping to prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 32,000 passenger vehicles.

Details of KB Home’s sustainability goals, achievements and challenges can be found in the 2014 KB Home Sustainability Report, which can now be accessed on the company’s website at www.kbhome.com/sustainability. In developing the report, KB Home once again followed the Global Reporting Initiative Guidelines, which provide a widely recognized level of accountability and transparency, and are considered by many environmental experts to be the current international standard for sustainability reporting.
