FRANKFURT--Johanna Quandt's children Stefan Quandt and Susanne
Klatten have inherited her 16.7% stake in voting rights of BMW AG
following her death last week.
Mr. Quandt and Ms. Klatten currently own Ms. Quandt's former
stake together, so that the voting rights are legally attributed to
both of them. It led to an increase in Mr. Quandt's voting rights
to 34.2% and Ms. Klatten's to 29.3%.
Mr. Quandt's stake in voting rights exceeds the 30% threshold
which can result in an obligation to make a takeover offer for the
company under German law. But family spokesman Jörg Appelhans said
Mr. Quandt wants to make use of a statutory exemption which frees
him from this obligation. Mr. Quandt has asked German financial
authority Bafin that some voting rights not be attributed to
him.
The Quandt family's combined share of voting rights has remained
unchanged at around 47%.
