TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Summer bonus at 234 leading Japanese companies
is expected to average 832,204 yen ($8,096), up a marginal 0.19 percent from a
year earlier, the smallest gain since 2002, as major firms will be
holding down bonuses this summer, according to a poll by the Nikkei business
daily released on
Monday.
Last year summer bonuses increased by an average 2.93 percent, the business
daily said.
This summer nonmanufacturers are cutting their payouts by 2.63 percent, the
first decrease in two years, while manufacturers are planning to raise bonus by
1.48 percent, it said.
