MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Italy's sales of two wheeled vehicles,
comprising motorbikes, scooters and under 50 cubic centimetre capacity products,
were up 1.7 percent to 60,132, said industry association Confindustria Ancma.
Motorbike sales fell 3.6 percent to 18,296 units, scooters were up 0.9
percent to 30,637, and 50cc models were up 14.2 percent to 11.199, it said.
"The effect of (environmental scrapping) incentives starts to be felt on
50cc models, and those meeting Euro 3 norms up to 400cc capacity, mainly
scooters," said Ancma chairman Guidalberto Guidi.
"This makes us hope for the immediate future, notwithstanding the economic
indicators are still negative," he said.
Ancma said the positive trend was also supported by extra working days,
compared to a year earlier, as well as the pick-up in 50cc models.
In four-month data, the association said Kawasaki's Z750 was top seller with
3,012, followed by BMW's R1200GS with 2,570, and Honda's Hornet 600.
In scooters, Yamaha's TMAX500 was top seller with 8,357, followed by three
Honda models, the SH150 with 6,043, the SH300 with 5,846, and SH125 with 4,851.
In up to 50cc models, Piaggio SpA brand Aprilia's Scarabeo 50 2T was top
seller with 2.557, followed by Piaggio brand Liberty 50 4T 2,284, and Kymco's
Agility 50 with 1,902, the association said.
