MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Italy new car registrations fell 19.50 percent
in June to 184,275, from 228,924 a year earlier, said the ministry for transport
and infrastructure.
In the first half of the year, registrations were down 11.45 percent to
1,259,365, from 1,422,267 in the same period a year earlier, the ministry said.
For June, industry experts had expected a fall of around 20 percent, also
taking account of one less working day in the month compared to June 2007.
Fiat brand registrations fell 15.67 percent to 46,353, representing a market
share of 25.15 percent, against 24.01 percent a year earlier.
Fiat brand Alfa Romeo registrations fell 27.66 percent to 5,137,
representing a market share of 2.79 percent, against 3.10 percent.
Fiat brand Lancia registrations fell 13.08 percent to 8,730, representing a
market share of 4.74 percent, against 4.39 percent.
Overall, this means Fiat's market share in June was 32.68 percent, against
31.50 a year earlier.
In further manufacturer data, the ministry said Ford registrations fell
13.16 percent to 14,512, or a market share of 7.88 percent, up from 7.30 in the
same period of 2007.
General Motors brand Opel registrations fell 26.58 percent to 12,632, or a
market share of 6.85 percent, from 7.52, it said.
Volkswagen registrations fell 21.99 percent to 10,711, or a market share of
5.81 percent, down from 6.00.
Citroen fell 15.90 percent to 9,349, or a market share of 5.07 percent,
against 4.86.
