Although 50% of those who made resolutions last year failed, more than 75% of respondents will try again.
ALLENTOWN, Pa., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 75% of U.S. adults, 18 years and older, plan to make one or more New Year's resolutions for 2008, according to a telephone study conducted by Opinion Research Corporation and sponsored by DayTimers, Inc. in December 2007. This is despite the fact that, of those who made resolutions for 2007, more than half failed to keep them.
Top resolutions that people made and failed at in 2007 were related to health, finance and work/life balance. They included: 1. Increase exercise -- 51% failed
2. Eat healthier -- 58% failed
3. Save money -- 52% failed
4. Spend time with family -- 57% failed
5. Enjoy leisure -- 54% failed Of those who made these resolutions, some groups experienced greater success than others in keeping their resolutions: -- Women (53%) paid off their debts more often than men (32%).
-- 25-34 year olds failed to find and enjoy leisure time; they were also
least likely to succeed at reducing stress.
-- Northeasterners, Southerners and those living in metropolitan areas
were least likely to adhere to their resolve to spend more time with
their families (60% failed).
-- Southerners had a harder time losing weight than those from any other
region in the country.
-- Westerners were the most successful at achieving their goal of getting
organized.
-- 59% of those with dual incomes who resolved to save money failed to do
so.
