NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Healthways Inc., which provides care management and
wellness programs, said Wednesday that it reached an agreement with Cigna
HealthCare on a three-year contract extension that runs through February 2013.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Under the new agreement, Healthways will continue to provide disease
management support for certain Cigna programs, which serve about 1.2 million of
the health care provider's members.
Cigna and Healthways have worked together for the past 11 years to design
and refine programs to help Cigna members with chronic diseases and persistent
conditions.
Healthways provides services including call centers and nurse educators that
help Cigna members better manage their illnesses, avoid unnecessary
hospitalization, and stop or slow the progression of their disease, the company
said.
Healthways shares rose $1.57, or 4.7 percent, to $35, while shares of Cigna
Corp. added 62 cents to $44.79.
