Domtar Hawesville Mill was recognized by the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers (KAM) as the Kentucky Manufacturer of the Year in the large business category. The award was announced and presented by Governor Matt Bevin at KAM’s annual awards luncheon in Louisville on Friday.

Created to focus attention on the important contributions manufacturers and industry make to their employees, customers and communities, this award showcases entrepreneurial spirt, community leadership, and policy contributions made by manufacturers in the Commonwealth to enhance sustainable and long-term prosperity in the state.

Domtar is proud to have operated in Kentucky since 1967. The integrated pulp and paper mill is the second-largest employer in Hawesville, supporting more than 450 jobs with an annual estimated regional economic impact of $1.5 billion. The mill produces nearly 600,000 tons of paper annually, primarily in printing and writing paper, as well as hardwood market pulp.

Nearly one third of the 2,000-acre mill site produces other agricultural products such as corn, hay and wheat. Domtar employees also play an important role in the community, giving hundreds of hours of volunteer time on schools boards, chambers of commerce, Junior Achievement programs, Scouting and sports teams.
