Podcasts explore personal stories of two successful business women

HSBC Private Bank hosted its fourth Women’s Forum in the UK, recognizing the achievements of women in business, considering the challenges they face and championing their continued progress. The focus was on helping women accomplish their professional and personal ambitions, as well as inspiring and engaging the next generation of successful women.

“Starting with the inspirational stories of our speakers, we look forward to stimulating conversation and debate with our clients. Today is an opportunity for our clients to connect with like-minded individuals, to consider how they can have a positive impact in their industries and to inspire the next generation of women,” said Helen Westbrook, Head of Marketing, Europe and Middle East at HSBC Private Bank.

To coincide with this event, HSBC Private Bank released two podcasts featuring guest speakers Mariéme Jamme, CEO, Spotone Global Solutions and Kirsty Bashforth, Kier Group plc non-executive director.

Mariéme grew up in an orphanage in Senegal and didn't attend school until she was 16. When asked how she overcame the significant challenges of her childhood to become the successful business women she is today, Mariéme said that "tenacity" got her through. "Knowing where I came from, and knowing that I didn't have any support, that gave me the power to really 'go for it'." Click here to listen.

Kirsty recalls what it took to achieve success as a woman in her 24 years at BP, including the vital role of mentors and sponsors. "More importantly is sponsorship. Those people who will stand-up for you when you're not in the room and advocate for you," Kirsty recounts. Click here to listen.

HSBC Private Bank launched the Women’s Forum in 2013 and hosts forums across its operations. Most recently, the bank hosted a Women’s Forum in Singapore, attended by influential women who are involved in managing their family business as well as the “business of the family.”
