Brand new club part of national pilot to test innovative shopping concept

Sam’s Club will open its new club in Gainesville Thursday, June 30. The club will feature more savings, services and innovative ways to shop for local families, business owners and students. Doors open at 4001 SW 30th Place in Gainesville following an 8:00 a.m. grand re-opening ceremony. This brand new club will replace the one on 13th Street, which opened its doors in 1990.

“We’re excited to offer the community a brand new shopping destination,” said Club Manager Aaron Ellington. “In our new club, we’ll offer an improved member experience including additional health and wellness services, as well as our new Scan & Go and enhanced Club Pickup ordering service.”

New club features

The Gainesville club will be the one of the first Sam’s Clubs in the country to offer the convenience of Scan & Go shopping. This innovative mobile app will make members’ checkout process faster by being able to scan UPC codes as they load items into their carts. When they are done shopping and ready to check out, they can pay directly on their phone from anywhere in the club and bypass the checkout line.

The Gainesville club will also offer an enhanced Club Pickup, which will include a designated pickup area and kiosk to notify associates when you arrive. Club Pickup enables members to order household or business items at SamsClub.com and will be ready for pickup in less than 24 hours.

Grand opening ceremony to feature local officials, special events

Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe and members of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce will be among those attending Thursday’s grand opening ceremony. The Gainesville ROTC will present colors and the national anthem will be performed by Jeremiah Eagle.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars and Florida Gator Fred Taylor will greet fans at the club between 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Sam’s Club will also showcase a variety of food samples and product demonstrations throughout grand opening weekend.

Commitment to community

The grand opening celebration will focus on the company’s commitment to being the club of the community by awarding $10,000 in grants to several local nonprofit organizations. Last year, Sam’s Club and Walmart stores in Florida provided more than $78 million in cash and in-kind donations to nonprofit organizations in the state. These donations represent community grants, food donations and associate volunteer efforts from stores, clubs and the Walmart Foundation.

In addition to the Sam’s Club giving program, the company also supports the area by sourcing products from local and regional businesses. Sam’s Club is proud to carry several regional products, including Rice Family Local Florida Honey, Island Grove Wine Company and local brews from Swamp Head Brewery and First Magnitude Brewing. Through the company’s Road Show program, skin care products from Jacksonville’s Natural As I Wanna Be (NAIWBE) will be featured during grand opening weekend. Members will also be able to enjoy wine pairings with various food samples during the celebration.
