HYDERABAD, India, February 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

Mordor Intelligence releases their report on the Global Autoclaved Aerated Concrete market. The report discusses autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) around the world and studies its markets segmented by product type, which include blocks, lintels, panels, tiles and 'Others'; by application - residential, industrial, commercial and 'Others.'

AAC, a relatively unique lightweight construction material, is manufactured from cement, lime, sand (or fly ash), aluminum powder (expansion agent) and anhydrite (or gypsum). It is a low density concrete and the final product contains no aggregates, unlike traditional concrete masonry units (CMUs).

The global AAC market is in its growth phase, and is expected to grow at a rapid pace until 2020. AAC consumption is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 7.41% from 2014 to 2020.

Europe held the largest share of the global market in 2014. The region is expected to witness moderate growth over the next five years, owing greatly to the gradual recovery of the European construction sector from the adverse effects of the 2008-09 recession.

AAC, since its introduction in the 1990s, has witnessed significant success. Its superior resistance to fire, wind, solar damage, seismic fluctuations and pests are the primary reasons to its extensive usage in construction activities, in the European and Asia-Pacific regions.

Despite its aforementioned characteristics and widespread global usage, the product has had little or negligible success in the US construction sector in the last two decades.

The lack of demand in the US can be attributed to the dearth of AAC manufacturers and distributors in the country. Another factor hindering the growth of the market is the reluctance among contractors to recommend the product to house-owners, as its usage requires precise mortar application. However, this scenario is expected to improve. Due to the growing emphasis on construction of green buildings, the need to sound proof buildings along with the gradual mounting pressure on the construction sector regarding ill effects of cement manufacturing on the environment, the market scenario is expected to witness a significant shift over the next few years. AAC is considered a green product, because it contains lower volumes of Portland cement (in comparison with traditional concrete), its non-polluting manufacturing process, and since the product is made from recycled materials (fly-ash).

AAC is available in the market in various shapes and sizes. It has been identified that the product is majorly consumed (used) in its block shape, with the segment having a revenue share of more than 70% in the global market, in terms of product type.

Some of the major players in the global AAC market include ACICO Industries, Biltech Building Elements Limited (Avantha), H+H International A/S, Masa Group, and the Xella Group.
